A 31-year-old Illinois man has been charged with two counts of murder after opening fire 21 times on a young couple exiting an event at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C., late Wednesday, according to a criminal complaint,
The deadly gunfire erupted outside the museum as the couple was leaving the event shortly after 9 p.m., authorities said during a press conference.
The fatal shooting of two Israeli embassy staffers near the Capital Jewish Museum has prompted D.C. police to increase security amid rising concerns about antisemitism.
"Please pray for the families of the victims. We will bring this depraved perpetrator to justice," DHS Sec. Kristi Noem said.
