An “isolated” period of geomagnetic storms is likely to disrupt Earth’s magnetic field late Thursday, as several states could have a chance to see the northern lights, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

For those in the northern states, the aurora borealis, or northern lights, are likely to appear this week, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Space Weather Prediction Center.

Auroras may be visible from Alaska to South Dakota as a giant hole in the sun's atmosphere shakes up geomagnetic activity in the coming days.
