BOSTON — While prosecutors have not alleged any wrongdoing or crimes, state Republican Party leaders called Tuesday for a Democrat state representative from Cape Cod to resign, and Rep. Christopher Flanagan of Dennis fired back that the GOP is engaging in "political mudslinging."

Barnstable police said in a press release that it received a report about "potential criminal activity” related to state Rep. Chris Flanagan and his reelection campaign. The department said the U.S. attorney's office for Massachusetts has picked up the investigation.

The Massachusetts Republican Party called for the state rep's immediate resignation, alleging “multiple instances of corruption and public deception.”

Federal prosecutors are investigating a Democratic state representative from Dennis Port and his election campaign after local police received a report that alleged “potential criminal activity,”

The US Attorney's Office for Mass. has taken over an investigation into state Rep. Chris Flanagan's alleged criminal activity, Barnstable Police said.
