After what sounded like gunfire, FWC officials emerged from the woods with a dead bear, possibly connected to the May 5 mauling of a Collier man.

The attack occurred in a rural area east of Naples, just south of Big Cypress Wildlife Management Area, authorities said.

On Monday morning, a woman called 911 after witnessing a bear attack and kill her father's dog—when authorities arrived, they also found the man's body.
