At Google I/O, Google demoed a feature named Gemini Live, where you point your smartphone camera at stuff and then ask Gemini questions about what you are looking at. Well, that feature went live late on Friday on the Gemini app.

It works well as a standalone AI chatbot, but Gemini's true value comes from its bundled cloud storage and deep integration with nearly every Google app.

Gemini in Google Drive can now summarize and answer questions about videos. The feature is available in English only and is accessible through Google Drive’s overlay previewer or a standalone file viewer.

Project Astra debuted at I/O 2024 as a next-generation AI assistant that can view the world around you, and provide advice and tips throughout the day. Since then, Astra has been incorporated into the camera and screen-sharing capabilities of the Gemini app and Google says it upgraded Astra's voice output to be more natural with native audio,

Gemini is already accessible in Drive, with the ability to summarize documents or folders, gather and analyze data, and expand on the topics covered in your documents. Google says the next step is plugging videos into Gemini, saving you from wasting time scrubbing through a file just to find something of interest.

“Although the feature is experimental, the goal is to increase the speed that you can ship high-quality code, while significantly reducing the amount of time you spend manually testing, validating, or reproducing issues,” wrote Android Studio Product Manager Mayank Jain in a blog post.
