Seventeen EU member states have issued a joint statement condemning Hungary’s recent legal measures that ban Budapest Pride, warning that the legislation infringes on fundamental rights and contradicts core European values.

Europe is getting more frustrated with Hungary's regressions on human rights. Most European Union countries, including the two most powerful, France and Germany, have signed a letter asking the E.U.’s executive arm, the European Commission (E.C.), to crack down on Hungary after the central European nation banned Pride celebrations.

Hungary's parliament passed legislation in March banning pride events, including a popular LGBT march in Budapest that draws thousands annually.
