The Tigers recalled Malloy from Triple-A Toledo on Monday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Malloy wasn't able to crack the Opening Day roster despite a strong spring training, but the 25-year-old is back in the majors in a move that corresponds with Detroit placing Gleyber Torres (oblique) on the 10-day injured list Monday.
The Tigers placed Torres on the 10-day injured list retroactive to last Saturday, meaning their starting second baseman will miss at least the next eight games.
Malloy will serve as the designated hitter and bat in the leadoff spot against the Mariners on Monday. Malloy was recalled by Detroit from Triple-A Toledo on Monday, and he'll waste no time getting into his first major-league action of the season.
