Metra has resolved a system-wide outage impacting safety technology, and trains are operating with delays on Tuesday evening.
A Metra spokesperson said that around 5 p.m. Tuesday, Metra’s positive train control (PTC) system, which prevents trains from speeding and has the ability to apply the brakes and stop trains if needed, failed. Because of this, trains were not able to depart and could not move under federal law.
