Better to be ready than sorry. Although Mt. Kanlaon has calmed down after a short but strong eruption on Monday, local governments on Negros Island were not letting their guards down. More evacuation centers were being readied for a spillover of people from the towns and cities affected by the volcano’s eruption amid a warning from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology

PHIVOLCS said on December 11, 2024 that it is yet too early to raise to 4 the alert level at Kanlaon Volcano but it is doing “worst case scenario planning.”

Kanlaon Volcano continued to spew ash days after its eruption, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology. Phivolcs said there has been continuous degassing with occasional ash emissions.
