An Allegheny County resident has been linked to a multistate salmonella outbreak, the health department announced on Thursday.

U.S. health officials are investigating a multistate outbreak of Salmonella in contaminated cucumbers after nine people were hospitalized, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

One or two people have gotten sick in Alabama based on a case count map from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Illness due to salmonella usually occurs within 12 to 72 hours after eating food that is contaminated. Symptoms include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps and can last up to a week.
