The small-town Santa Claus, Indiana post office is now using its limited-edition Christmas postmark. Through Dec. 24, letters mailed to the Postmaster or Santa’s PO Box will receive the postmark. People can also come to the office in person to have their mail stamped.

Here are guidelines to write Santa Claus or to participate in the Post Office’s longstanding Operation Santa program.

Both Bachmier and Livolsi tend to get around 30 letters to Santa a year, though Bachmier expects due to the strike she'll be receiving a lot more this year. She said that all letters to Santa should be sent by Dec. 18 at the latest, to give him time to respond before Christmas.

Santa’s mailbox is now set up and ready for children to drop off their letters. It’s located on the sidewalk at 11 State Street in downtown Newburgh and will be available until 13. We’re told Santa and his helpers will hand-write letters in return.
