Susan Crawford’s Wisconsin Supreme Court election victory over a conservative candidate backed by President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk cements a liberal majority on the state’s top court for at least three more years.

Crawford worked for Democratic Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle and as a partner at Pines Bach, a progressive law firm.

Wisconsin voters on Tuesday delivered Democrats their biggest jolt since President Donald Trump returned to power, handing liberals a state Supreme Court majority and defying Elon Musk’s record-shattering effort to bolster a conservative Trump acolyte.

Judge Crawford defeated Judge Brad Schimel, who was backed by President Trump, for a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court. She worked as a prosecutor and in private practice before joining the bench.

Following the most expensive judicial election in US history, Susan Crawford defeated her conservative rival Brad Schimel. Crawford's victory keeps intact the 4-3 liberal control of Wisconsin's highest court.

On Tuesday, conservative Waukesha County Judge Brad Schimel will square off against liberal Dane County Judge Susan Crawford to determine the ideological direction of the Wisconsin Supreme Court. The race will likely determine how the high court rules on issues like abortion access and union rights in the coming months.

Elon Musk was a prominent fundraiser in the campaign, and was the subject of attack ads aired by Crawford's supporters.
