An area of low pressure in the central tropical Atlantic Ocean is expected to form as a tropical depression within the next day, becoming Tropical Storm Jerry not long after, forecasters said Tuesday morning.
The tropical wave, now referred to as Invest 95L (AL95), has a 50% chance of formation over the next 48 hours and a 70% chance of formation over the next seven days, according to the NHS in Miami. It is forecast to approach the Leeward Islands by late this week.
The tropical wave, a broad area of low pressure, is currently several hundred miles south-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands, according to the National Hurricane Center’s Sunday afternoon update. Due to the system’s distance from land at the moment, it isn’t causing severe weather in the South Florida region.
In southeast Louisiana and the Gulf Coast, scattered showers brought by a weak area of low pressure are scheduled to continue Monday. Waves of moderate morning rain will hit the coastal southeast Louisiana and south Mississippi coasts, according to the National Weather Service.
