President Donald Trump said on Friday morning that negotiations with the EU are "going nowhere" and threatened the countries with a 50% tariff.

The twin threats, delivered via social media, roiled global markets after weeks of de-escalation had provided some reprieve.

While the Japanese firm didn't explicitly call out tariffs as the reason, the fact that the increases were only coming for the US market was telling.This followed on the heels of perhaps the largest retailer to issue a price increase warning: Walmart.
