Local and state road crews have prepared for the winter storm since last week. Getting enough trucks and supplies to our region to make the roads passable is a task undertaken by multiple agencies across Texas.

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — TxDOT Amarillo alerts drivers of snow beginning to accumulate on area roads creating a slick roadway. TxDOT encourages drivers to slow-down, ensure there’s plenty of space in between you and the vehicle in front of you, and allow yourself plenty of time to reach your destination.

Another cold snap is headed for Texas, and TxDOT crews are working days in advance of the storm to prepare. In a flurry of activity, crews across the state started pretreating roads as early as Wednesday ahead of a possible second round of brutally cold temperatures next week.

NTTA and TxDOT have begun putting down a saltwater mix called "brine" on streets and major highways to help prevent ice from sticking on the roads. TxDOT treated elevated surfaces, which are known to freeze first -- especially the big interchanges in North Texas.
