The Canucks are coming off back-to-back comeback wins against the Dallas Stars and Chicago Blackhawks, bringing their record up to 3–2–0 on the season. Washington, on the other hand, is coming off a 5–1 win that elevates them to a 4–1–0 record.

Brock Boeser scored in the fourth round of the shootout and the Vancouver Canucks beat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2.

The Blackhawks nearly pulled the victory out when Tyler Bertuzzi thought he had scored the go-ahead goal with 5:12 remaining in the third period. Instead, he was called for goaltender interference, which led to the Blackhawks challenging the call, losing the challenge and heading to the penalty kill.

In theory, Elias Pettersson and Victor Mancini were the Vancouver Canucks' third pairing on Friday; they never actually played together.
