The Carolina Hurricanes have emerged as a potential suitor for Vancouver Canucks star Elias Pettersson, according to TSN’s Chris Johnston. Speaking on TSN’s "Insider Trading" on Tuesday, Johnston first noted that Vancouver remains active in trade discussions involving both Pettersson and J.

Over the past week and a half, Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin and director of player personnel Scott Young took in a series of World Junior games in Ottawa, watched Vancouver’s AHL affiliate in Laval and were in attendance together to witness the Canucks’ 5-4 overtime loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Monday.

The Vancouver Canucks are listening to their options with feuding superstars, but Elias Pettersson may be the first to go.

Despite Pettersson's recent struggles, his return could mimic past blockbuster deals involving a star center. Winnipeg recently traded Pierre-Luc Dubois to Los Angeles for three NHL pieces and a draft pick. Before that, Buffalo traded Jack Eichel to Vegas for an NHL player, a top prospect, and two draft picks.
