Gunmen have killed a mayoral candidate from Mexico’s governing party in the Gulf coast state of Veracruz and four others who accompanied her.

Yesenia Lara Gutiérrez, a mayoral candidate from Mexico’s ruling Morena party, was gunned down Sunday in Texistepec, Veracruz. She was leading a caravan of supporters. According to the Associated Press,
