Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin expressed a positive outlook Thursday regarding the current contract standoff between the organization and superstar pass-rusher T.J. Watt.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are in an interesting situation with their superstar edge rusher TJ Watt. The team had an opportunity to negotiate a contract extension earlier, but chose to wait, and now the edge rusher market has rapidly increased.

Watt's current situation is similar to what transpired 20 years ago between the Steelers and Pro Bowl receiver Hines Ward. After a brief holdout, Ward, then 29, signed an extension just before the start of the 2005 season, a season that ended with Ward winning Super Bowl MVP honors.
