The Georgia Department of Agriculture has lifted the suspension of poultry activities in Georgia, one of the country’s top poultry-producing states, after bird flu testing, depopulation, cleaning and disinfecting were done in the area and no new cases were found.

There are new developments about bird flu in Georgia. The State Agriculture Commissioner says commercial producers can go back to normal operations. The state is lifting the suspension on poultry production. It says testing shows no additional detections of the bird flu in affected areas.

The suspension of poultry activities in Georgia was lifted after successful testing and protocols showed no further detections of avian influenza, the Department of Agriculture reported on Monday.

Just 24 days after halting the sale of poultry in Georgia due to concerns over the avian flu, the Georgia Department of Agriculture has lifted its suspension.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul ordered a temporary closure of live-poultry markets after bird flu was detected in the outer boroughs of New York City. The order, signed by Hochul on Friday, requires the markets to close down between Feb. 7 and Feb. 14 as facilities undergo a complete disinfection process.

There’s currently no mandate from the state for chicken markets to shut down. However, the state’s Department of Agriculture has asked for those businesses to do a voluntary cleaning.
