South Western school officials are considering new restrictions on what books students have access to in the classroom following several recent challenges.

Jennifer Dixon - a second grader teacher at Ypsilanti Community Schools’ Holmes Elementary - has been awarded a $10,000 grant she will use to expand and improve her classroom library.

“Farewell, classroom library,” one teacher posted on Facebook. “My heart is broken for Florida students today as I am forced to pack up my classroom library,” another posted.

In my classroom, for more than a decade, the answer has always been “Get a book and read.” That is until last week when I was told to pack up my classroom library until further notice.
