The wording of the plaque has thrown Huntington Beach — an Orange County surf town with 192,000 residents that’s about 30 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles — into the national spotlight.

The US Open of Surfing will feature music, motocross and of course, surfing on the south side of the Huntington Beach Pier.
