No. 11 Mississippi State returns home to face Nicholls in a midweek game airing on SECN+ before Auburn arrives Thursday.

Mississippi State baseball relief pitcher Ben Davis was pulled from the May 2 game at Texas with an apparent injury.

Two more runs scored in the eighth inning, first on a Jacob Parker groundout, then on Bryce Chance’s RBI double.  The MSU pitching staff stranded 17 Texas runners as the Longhorns left the bases loaded in four straight innings to close the game.

An epic meltdown in the third inning cost Mississippi State baseball the series against Texas.  The No. 9 Bulldogs (36-12, 14-10 SEC) lost 11-6 to the No. 4 Longhorns (35-10, 15-8) in Austin on May 3 after allowing nine runs in the third inning.

The No. 9 Bulldogs (35-11, 13-9 SEC) fell 3-1 at No. 4 Texas (34-9, 14-7) in the series opener on May 1, ending their nine-game winning streak.  Texas starting pitcher Dylan Volantis (7-0) threw six shutout innings with 12 strikeouts,

Mississippi State is back at home this week for both midweek and SEC baseball action. The week begins this evening with a nonconference test against Nicholls State, a warm-up for another Top 10 series against Auburn this weekend.

The Bulldogs host Nicholls on Tuesday, but the bigger focus is how Mississippi State manages a depleted pitching staff.
