Researchers found that 111,000 people, or 300 per day, decided to make the move from California to Texas in 2021, an 80% increase compared to 2012, according to data from the U.S. Census and IPUMS.
Between 2012 and 2021, the number of Americans moving from California to Texas nearly doubled, with around 111,000 Californians who left for the Lone Star state that year, the report found.
But are people from California really leaving the state to move to Texas? The U.S. Census reports that, on average, 68,700 Californians moved to Texas each year over the past decade.
