The high school already had an extra long school year, adding 13 more days to their in-person education than required by the state. The school committee then allowed the school to opt into virtual learning four times a year. Sometimes, those can be used in replacement of a snow day.

This latest bout of snow brings with it concerns for some schools as they're nearing the limit of allotted snow days for the year. Students in grades K-8 and high school will be expected to complete homework packets and assignments if class is canceled again this school year.

Students, teachers and parents in the Kansas City area have endured scrambled school schedules so far in 2025. Between a record-breaking week of snow shortly after winter break, morning ice in early February and another winter storm expected to hit Wednesday, Feb. 12, area school districts are running out of their scheduled snow days.
