Republican worries about energy affordability didn’t deter the administration from halting five major projects that had already begun construction.
The second Trump administration announced its animosity toward offshore wind power literally on day one, issuing an executive order on inauguration day that called for a temporary halt to issuing permits for new projects pending a re-evaluation.
The Interior Department said the projects posed national security risks, without providing details. The decision imperils billions of dollars of investments.
Equinor said April 17 that it will cease construction of its massive Empire Wind project off the coast of New York and that it is considering taking legal action after the Trump administration ordered the project to be halted pending further review.
