Bass' trip to Ghana has garnered criticism, given the fact that weather officials had warned about dangerous wind and fire conditions before the blaze erupted. An LA Times-UC Berkeley poll shows that 41% of residents in LA described Bass' response to the firestorm as poor or very poor.

The messages, released by the Mayor's office in response to a California Public Records Act request, help to illustrate how she managed the city’s fire response remotely, while she was on board several flights after attending the inauguration of Ghana’s new president as part of a U.S. delegation.

Messages originally obtained by the Los Angeles Times show conversations between Mayor Karen Bass and various government officials as she was traveling from Ghana to Los Angeles earlier this year.
