The head of the DEA has been given the powers of D.C.’s police chief, part of a Trump administration law enforcement takeover that’s bringing more federal agents and National Guard troops into the city.

Attorney General Pam Bondi on Thursday evening directed the Washington, DC, mayor and police department to end the capital’s sanctuary city policies and formalized the federal government’s control of DC police.

The order effectively strips the Metropolitan Police Department commissioner of any authority days after Trump launched a federal crackdown on crime in the city.
