Illinois Democrat Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi announced he will be running for Senate, after Sen. Dick Durbin said he won’t seek reelection.

The race to replace outgoing U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) is heating up. Durbin, the Senate Democratic Whip, announced he will not seek reelection in 2026 in an April 23 news release. The decision will conclude Durbin’s 44-year congressional career and set the stage for Illinois’ first competitive Democratic primary for a U.

Rep. Robin Kelly (D-IL) announced Tuesday she is launching a campaign to replace Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) after he revealed last month he would not seek reelection to his Illinois Senate seat.
