A large fire broke out at a Hindu religious festival, the Maha Kumbh Mela, in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, but the blaze was quickly brought under control and no injuries were reported,

On a regular day around 10-15 lakh people are estimated to be visiting the mela. Another 50 to 60 lakh people are estimated to be staying in Maha Kumbh Nagar, taking the total number of people present at the mela on any given day to 65-70 lakh.

The Shri Hari Divya Sadhana Peeth camp, situated on the Sangam Lower Road in Sector 16, next to the Kinnar Akhara, reported having witnessed the fire incident.

A major fire broke out at the Maha Kumbh Mela on Sunday evening in Sector 19 near Malepur Ghat, Narnoor, caused by an LPG cylinder explosion. The blaze engulfed 18 tents, leading to thick clouds of smoke that spread across the fair area and caused panic among nearby akhadas. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.
