After a flood of complaints from consumers and lawmakers over high natural gas bills, the state Department of Public Utilities on Friday trimmed $500 million from the three-year budget for the state’s Mass Save energy efficiency program, which is funded by a surcharge on gas and electric bills.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities slashed the Mass Save budget by $500 million in an order put out Friday afternoon.

The westbound side of the Mass Pike is closed at the Route 495 interchange in Hopkinton after a large crack was seen in the highway. Drivers should expect traffic delays as crews make emergency repairs to the road,

At least one lane on Mass Pike was set to open at 2 p.m. Friday, with the rest of the lanes planned to open around 8 p.m.

A “construction trench settlement formed in the low-speed lane due to nearby construction,” the state transportation department said.
