Munster attack coach Mike Prendergast has directly come out and stated his desire to become the next head coach of the province. The former scrum-half recently penned a new deal to tie himself down in his current role for a further two years.

The province's attack coach believes the time is right to put himself forward for the top job, having served his apprenticeship in France with Grenoble, Oyonaax, Stade Francais and Racing 92 before returning to Munster in 2022.

Prendergast had been placed at the top of potential successors but this was the first indication the 47-year-old was interested in taking the step up to head coach.
