The nonprofit corporation that partially funds NPR and the Public Broadcasting Service is firing back at President Donald Trump's executive order to pull funding.

NPR and PBS quickly released fierce statements condemning President Donald Trump for trying to halt their federal funding with his late-night executive order.

The president said public funding of the media networks was "outdated and unnecessary but corrosive to the appearance of journalistic independence."
