British & Irish Lions players welcomed the imminent arrival of Owen Farrell on Friday as they prepared for their third tour game against the New South Wales Waratahs at Sydney Football Stadium this weekend.

British & Irish Lions coach Andy Farrell says he understands the criticism of his decision to call-up son Owen, but insists the veteran is the right choice to replace the injured Elliot Daly.

Farrell could have dismissed out of hand a return to the international stage, given the experience he endured during the 2023 World Cup including the furore that accompanied his red card for a high tackle on Taine Basham in the warm-up game against Wales.
