Satellite images show that the storm would weaken as it nears the coast. Even though the storm weakened as it approached land, it will still bring tropical storm conditions near the coast throughout Monday.

Barry made landfall as a tropical depression off the eastern Gulf Coast of Mexico on Sunday night, and was expected to bring heavy rains and flash flooding to the North American nation over the next few days.

Barry was a tropical storm in the Bay of Campeche Sunday afternoon Eastern time, the National Hurricane Center said in its latest advisory. The tropical storm had sustained wind speeds of 45 miles per hour.
