After an extremely active and deadly 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, the World Meteorological Organization is retiring the names of three particularly devastating storms that broke records and made history: Beryl, Helene and Milton.
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) on Wednesday officially replaced the names of the trio of 2024 storms that killed more than 300 people and caused more than $119 billion in damage.
“The WMO Hurricane Committee has retired the names Beryl, Helene and Milton from its Atlantic basin name list and John from the eastern Pacific basin name list because of the death and destruction these storms caused in 2024,” the WMO said Wednesday.
