Zak Brown rowed back on his criticism of Nico Hulkenberg after a United States GP Sprint incident which eliminated both McLaren cars.

Nico Hulkenberg explained his side of the clash that wiped out both McLaren drivers at the start of the United States Grand Prix sprint race. Title rivals Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were taken out at Turn 1 on the first lap of Saturday’s sprint after Sauber’s Hulkenberg hit Piastri and inadvertently pitched him into his McLaren teammate.

McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown described the first-lap incident that in which his two cars collided and retired from the Sprint at the United States Grand Prix as “amateur hour driving.”

Zak joined McLaren Racing in November 2016 as an Executive Director before becoming CEO in April 2018. His first day was just over a year after one of the worst Championship finishes in the team’s history. He’s overseen a remarkable turnaround.
