The union representing Kauai Police Department officers reached a settlement agreement with the county over COVID-19 hazard pay with initial payouts of approximately $20,000 coming in the next four to five months if the Kauai County Council votes to accept it.

Irineo Eder, 79, of Kekaha was bicycling westbound along Kaumualii Highway when police said he veered into the road and was hit by a truck heading in the same direction. Eder was taken to Wilcox Medical Center in critical condition and died on Saturday, March 1. Police said he was not wearing a helmet.
