A 31-year-old Illinois man has been charged with two counts of murder after opening fire 21 times on a young couple exiting an event at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C., late Wednesday, according to a criminal complaint,
The deadly gunfire erupted outside the museum as the couple was leaving the event shortly after 9 p.m., authorities said during a press conference.
The fatal shooting of two Israeli embassy staffers near the Capital Jewish Museum has prompted D.C. police to increase security amid rising concerns about antisemitism.
