Dallas’ former QB and OC presents a safe option for the team’s next coach. Here’s why that might not be a good thing.

The Dallas Cowboys’ search for a new head coach to replace Mike McCarthy is just now getting started. Kellen Moore joins Deion Sanders as early candidates.

If Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is serious about ending that drought, he would hire Moore because of his potential as a head coach − and because Moore knows the inner workings of the Cowboys' main NFC East rival, the Eagles.

The Cowboys are set to interview a pair of former NFL head coaches next in Robert Saleh and Leslie Frazier. Saleh was fired by the New York Jets five games into his fourth season in 2024. Frazier, the assistant head coach in Seattle this season, spent three-plus years as coach of the Minnesota Vikings a decade ago.

He’s been the club’s backup QB, QB coach, and offensive coordinator. Now the Cowboys want to talk to Moore about coming back as the top dog.

Moore was Dallas franchise quarterback Dak Prescott’s play-caller from 2019-2022, which included the first three years of McCarthy’s five-year tenure.
