Trump’s Revenge Tour
Trump’s effort to turn the Justice Department into his personal legal weapon shatters norms of law-enforcement independence inculcated in the decades since Watergate, and arguably outstrips any previous abuses of the department at any other point in American history.
Trump appointed Halligan to the role after other prosecutors refused the president’s pressure to punish his perceived political rivals. Late last month, Halligan brought charges against former FBI Director James Comey.
Attorney General Pam Bondi was reportedly caught off guard when U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan announced the indictment of New York Attorney General Letitia James.
