The storm is forecast to turn away from the U.S. later this week, saving Louisiana and the Gulf Coast from any potential impacts.
Meanwhile in the Atlantic Ocean, Tropical Storm Jerry formed Tuesday with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph. It was centered about 1,315 miles east-southeast of the northern Leeward Islands, but was traveling west at 24 mph.
A hurricane that’s gaining strength off the southwestern coast of Mexico might send rain and surf to San Diego County late this week, easing the wildfire danger while potentially creating strong rip currents at the coast.
