In a striking gesture of respect, King Charles followed in his grandfather's footsteps as he appeared on the balcony in front of thousands of spectators in central London to mark VE Day celebrations

Lady Sarah McCorquodale was seen sitting near King Charles at yesterday’s VE Day commemorations. With just veteran Joy Trew, 98, between them, the two were seen engaging in conversation as fans spotted the unexpected reunion.

The King will lead the nation through the most prominent VE Day celebrations in years. Senior members of the Royal family will mark next week’s commemorations as they come out in full force to take part in nationwide tributes in the last major “living memory” opportunity to do so.
