Coming off an upset loss in week 6, the Texas Longhorns seemingly bounced back with a triumphant 23-6 win over the No. 6 Oklahoma Sooners for the annual Red River Rivalry in Dallas on Saturday.
DALLAS -- Texas stunned No. 6 Oklahoma 23-6 behind a dominant defensive performance to win the Red River Rivalry at the Cotton Bowl. The Longhorns held the Sooners without a touchdown for the third time in four years to pick up a critical bounce-back victory against their rival.
That defensive foundation fueled a 5-0 Oklahoma start. The Sooners allowed their opponents a measly 7.2 points, on average, and sacked opposing quarterbacks 4.2 times per game. Because the Longhorns ran an offense structured around maximizing Manning’s big arm down the field, they seemed like a juicy target for Brent Venables’ defense.
Arch Manning was 21-of-27 passing for 166 yards, and Texas got a much-needed 23-6 win over sixth-ranked Oklahoma.
Live from the Cotton Bowl where 90,000-plus Longhorns and Sooners fans will pour in and split down the middle at the 50-yard line, Arch Manning will lead Texas against sixth-ranked Oklahoma. The Sooners enter the much-anticipated matchup undefeated while the Longhorns are looking to avoid their third loss and keep their playoff hopes alive.
Arch Manning and Texas finally figured some things out on Saturday afternoon and picked up their first Power 4 win of the season.
The Oklahoma Sooners are set to face off against their most bitter rival on Saturday, the Texas Longhorns. I won't fall for calling it the Red River Showdown because to me, it will always be the Red River Rivalry.
