Strider (2-5) registered the win Thursday against the Mets, giving up one run on five hits and one walk in six innings. He struck out eight. Strider followed up on his 13-strikeout performance his last time out with another heavy dose of swing-and-miss stuff Thursday.

The New York Mets needed just 12 days at the start of June to open a 5 1/2-game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies. It took only eight days for the lead to evaporate. The Mets will attempt to climb back into a tie for first place in the National League East on Saturday night when they play the second contest of their three-game series against the host Philadelphia Phillies.

This isn't September 2007 or September 2008 for the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets. But the surging Phillies and reeling Mets are in familiar historical positions on Friday as the National League East rivals open a three-game series in Philadelphia.
