As heavy rain batters parts of Tamil Nadu, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday issued a warning for the southern state, forecasting heavy rainfall across multiple districts until December 14.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. Some districts will face very heavy rainfall. Fishermen are warned against venturing into the sea. Schools are closed in several districts.

The IMD has also said that heavy to very heavy rains are expected in Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukkottai districts along with isolated thunderstorms and lightning.

IMD has issued a yellow alert across Tamil Nadu with heavy to moderate rains forecasted today. School holidays were declared in 11 districts, including Chennai and Villupuram.
