The federal government shutdown is forcing a reckoning for two remote health care programs because they automatically expired Oct. 1.
While Social Security and Medicare benefits continue to be paid during the federal shutdown, and are in no danger of being cut or ended, people dealing with the programs could encounter some problems.
People 65 and older may see higher or lower Medicare premium costs, different plan options, limited telehealth access and other changes for 2026 coverage.
