The Tufts University student that ICE grabbed off the street was denied bond in her immigration case Immigration authorities arrested Öztürk in Somerville, Massachusetts, on March 25. She co-wrote an opinion essay in March 2024 in the student newspaper criticizing the school’s response to demands that it “acknowledge the Palestinian genocide” and “divest from companies with direct or indirect ties to Israel.

Federal authorities have alleged that Ozturk engaged in activities supporting the terrorist group Hamas and revoked her visa.
