Publishers Clearing House, a decades-old marketing and sweepstakes company known for doling out large “Prize Patrol” checks, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The Port Washington, N.Y., company is well-known for the slogan in which millions are offered a chance to win sweepstakes prizes, including $10 million on Super Bowl Sunday.

But while Publishers Clearing House (PCH) is sending checks, it’s not to sweepstakes winners. PCH will send a grand total of $18.5 million to 281,724 recipients as part of a refund to consumers.
