Passengers on Southwest Flight 1496 to Las Vegas experienced a terrifying nosedive when the pilot took action to avoid a midair collision, causing injuries as people hit the ceiling.

A Southwest Airlines flight from Burbank made an emergency descent of 475 feet to avoid colliding with another aircraft before safely landing in Las Vegas on Friday.

The plane abruptly descended 475 feet to avoid a collision with a Hawker Hunter aircraft, ABC News reported. About six minutes after Southwest flight 1496 took off from Hollywood Burbank Airport, it abruptly descended from 14,100 feet to 13,625 feet. The flight was bound for Las Vegas.
